| | Cascading waters and lush hemlock forest immediately envelop the visitor in a cocoon of sound and visual beauty. Scan carefully for bird movement as the stream will make it difficult to hear birdsong. Solitary Vireo, Yellow-billed and Black-billed Cuckoos, Blue-winged, Black-throated Green and Blackburnian Warblers and Louisiana Waterthrush all breed here. The well-marked trail through Van Campens Glen wends streamside through a hemlock ravine and past two waterfalls in a surrounding of mountain laurel, rhododendron and ferns. It can be quite slippery, so take care and wear proper footwear; a walking stick may help with balance. It is the perfect place to keep cool during a hot summer day. Listen to the rushing waters, take a deep breath and relax.
More parking can be found at the Upper Glen Parking lot. Proceed north on Old Mine Road 0.9 miles; parking is on the Left. Follow trail signs for Van Campens Glen across the street from the parking area. This area of the glen can be good for Acadian Flycatcher, Black-throated Blue and Chestnut-sided Warblers, American Redstart and Yellow-billed and Black-billed Cuckoos.
