The 1,062-acre Northern Stony Brook Preserve lies within the Sourland Mountain Range and is part of a network of contiguous preserved properties that extends for 60 miles along the ridge. The Sourlands region is known for its water resources, intact mature forests and perched wetlands, all of which provide breeding grounds for species that need intact and contiguous habitat. Three trails traverse 421 acres of the property, offering hiking opportunities from 1.3 miles to 5 miles. The region provides habitat for threatened and endangered species such as bobcat, Barred Owl, Cooper’s Hawk, Savannah and Grasshopper Sparrows and wood turtle. It is also a great place to find Ovenbird, Scarlet Tanager, Veery, Wood Thrush and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
