The Stanton Station property, named after a train station that was nearby, was purchased by the Hunterdon County Parks and Recreation Department in 1975 and added to the South Branch Reservation, a collection of preserved properties along the South Branch of the Raritan River. There is access to the river for trout fishing or canoeing/kayaking. A trail follows the river and provides some enjoyable views. Migrant birds and mammals are usually attracted to water; look for Eastern Phoebe, Louisiana Waterthrush, Baltimore Oriole, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart and Yellow, Yellow-rumped and Black-and-white Warblers. Be alert to a possible river otter, red fox, coyote or even black bear.
